Fate of R.P. lies in hands of overseas Filipinos evangelist

Fate of R.P. lies in hands of overseas Filipinos evangelist

TORONTO–The fate of the Philippines lies in the hands of Filipinos living outside of the country and not in the politicians and bureaucrats who are running it, says Bo Sanchez, a renowned Filipino author, speakerand Catholic evangelist.

This was one the messages he delivered recently to near-capacity audiences in his three-night stint in the Greater Toronto Area in the All Out For Jesus: A Worship Revolution rallies. Two of the shows were sponsored by Couples for Christ and were held at Scarborough’s Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute and at Mississauga’s Sts. Martha and Mary Church.

Using worship music as the thread to bind the show’s rollercoaster of emotions Sanchez, along with fellow musical evangelists Arun Gogna, and Bella Dimayuga, guided the audiences on a ride of prayers, tears, laughter, excitement and inspiration in their well-attended and well-received shows.
In one segment, Sanchez gave a talk and said that any hope to lift the Philippines out of being a Third-World country is for Filipinos living outside their homeland to extend their love to their brothers and sisters back home. As Christians, he added, it is essential that they demonstrate that love to the less fortunate in a concrete way by doing all they can to support charities and transformation initiatives such as ANCOP’s Gawad Kalinga project.

ANCOP (ANswering the Cry Of the Poor) is the network of organizations set up by Couples for Christ, a family-oriented, charismatic Catholic ministry, to help the poor in the Philippines and other Third World countries. Gawad Kalinga (meaning “to give care”) is its grassroots project to build 700,000 homes in 7,000 communities in seven years for the poor and homeless (a.k.a. GK 777) by using its own network of volunteers and supporters.

Gawad Kalinga (GK) villages are known by their brightly-painted homes, clean surroundings and a functional community structure where families also receive basic medical care, the children are educated and the adults are trained in livelihood skills to become self-supporting and contribute positively to society. Christian value formation is a large part of their education, laying a solid foundation for their future.

Toronto area residents can offer their support or get further information by directly calling the Couples for Christ East office at 416-321-1937 or the CFC West/ANCOP office at 905-564-8539. More information can also be found online at www.gawadkalinga.org and www.-cfcglobal.org.ph
