TORONTO-In the second round of the contest held last February 27, the Group 2 contestants gave such a good performance to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd who packed the Rizal Hall. Too bad not everyone could be a winner. At the end of the show, the judges – Perla Andres, Liane Dizon and Juan Tomas – picked the first and second place winners for each category to compete with the other winners of the first and third groups in the final round on June 12th.
The winners were: 1st category – Jessa Dee Apostol Luna and Candace Santos; 2nd category – Grace Rodrigues and Chloe Castillo; 3rd category – Andrew Picana.
During the intermission, the audience enjoyed the dance presentations performed by the graceful dancers of the Folklorico Filipino Canada and the young, nimble group called the ACS Dancers. Emcees were George Tabucan and Mariam Romano-Lim, while Paul Arena of Sound Energy provided the music.
The next Filipino Singing Idol Contest for the third group will be held on April 30th at the Rizal Hall. Sponsors of the competition are Astralias, Belle Optical, Cinerama, Harvey’s, Dr. Lina Bala, Linda’s Wellness Gems, Philippine Parent Association of Metropolitan Toronto, Philippine National Bank and
Weatech Inc.
Meanwhile, three finalists of the singing contest are getting ready to join the Apo Hiking Society Spring Tour 2004. Michael Magali, Renee Montero and Grace Rodrigues will be singing with the popular Philippine singing group on April 17 at the International Centre.
