Citizenship oath-taking to resume in Consulate
Citizenship oath-taking to resume in Consulate
THE Philippine Consulate General in Toronto is pleased to inform the public that it will soon accept applications and conduct oath-taking for the retention or reacquisition of Filipino citizenship following the publication in Philippine newspapers on 17 March 2004 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for Republic Act (R.A.) 9225, otherwise known as the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003. Pursuant to existing regulations, the guidelines shall take effect fifteen (15) days after said date of publication, or on April 1, 2004.
It may be noted that the conduct of oath taking for applicants seeking to retain or reacquire Filipino citizenship was held in abeyance early this year pending finalization of the IRR.
R.A. 9225 entitles all natural-born Philippine citizens who have lost their Philippine citizenship by reason of their naturalization as citizens of a foreign country, to retain or reacquire Philippine citizenship upon taking an oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines.
Applicants shall submit National Statistics Office (NSO)-authenticated copies of their birth certificates as proof of one’s status as a former natural-born Philippine citizens. Under the current guidelines, no secondary documents will be accepted under the process.
For further inquiries, please call the Philippine Consulate General at 416 922 71 81, extensions 224 (Ema Manrique) or 227 (Armi Santos).
