Educational TV needs help for R.P. kids
TORONTO–The Philippine Consulate General is pleased to inform the Filipino community of a new project developed by the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc., a non-stock non-profit social development arm of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Co, to enhance the welfare and conditions of the Filipino children. One of them is the Educational Television Project (ETV).
ETV programs are aired nationwide and are then converted into DVD format for classroom distribution and utilization. Aside from their educational values, these programs have garnered numerous awards and recognition, both from local and international bodies such as the Catholic Mass Media Awards, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas, UNICEF, and the Prix Jeunesse Foundation, among others.
The ETV projects are comprised of the following:
• ETV-Adopt-a-Hometown-School. ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.’s (AFI) ETV-Adopt-A-Hometown School campaign involves Filipinos overseas to assist in the improvement of the quality of schoolchildren in their communities of origin. Scores of Filipino overseas have done their share of helping the younger generation in their hometowns.
• The Commitment: From the 36,000 public elementary schools in the Philippines today, at least 25,000 already have electricity. The Foundation is actively working on having at least 17,500 public elementary schools (70% of those with electricity) direct access to ETV in the next five years. To date, at least 5,000 public elementary schools have been covered. And, with your support, the Foundation is committed to cover at least 2,500 public elementary schools per year for the next five years. In doing so, more than 12 million Filipino schoolchildren will benefit from the quality education provided by ETV.
Your support. For just US$1,200, a public elementary school can be equipped with the following: ETV-DVD Package — 108 volumes (DVDs with 4 episodes/volume containing lessons in Science (Sineskwela, 34 volumes), Mathematics (MathTinik, 26 volumes), English (Epol/Apple,19 volumes), Philippine history (Bayani, 14 volumes), and Values Education (Hirayamanawari, 15 volumes) + 1 DVD volume on Teacher Training and 1 Episode Guide CD; 221″ TV set; DVD player; turn-over and documentation expenses.
Tie-up with the DFA Adopt-A-Classroom Project: Advocacy strategies and fund-raising activities can be integrated into an ETV-Adopt-A-Hometown Classroom Project.
