PPC-O holds annual meeting

PPC-O holds annual meeting

The Philippine Press Club-Ontario held its annual general meeting on Sunday, March 20 at St. Boniface Parish Church function hall.

Paul de la Cruz, PPC-O president, delivered a report on its activities since the election of officers last August.

De la Cruz mentioned some members of the organization who are at the forefront of the Community Alliance for Social Justice (CASJ) which PPC-O supports. There are at least nine of its members who are also with CASJ.

A major topic of discussion was the proposal to amend the Constitution and Bylaws of the PPC-O to redefine the meaning of Special Members or Associate Members.

Rose Bustamante, columnist of Balita, was assigned to draft a long term plan of action of PPC-O, with ideas and suggestions from the members.

Jess Cabrias, a columnist of Atin Ito, resigned as vice president. Rose Tijam, a columnist of Balita, was  appointed as vice president in a subsequent meeting of PPC-O officers.

Hermie Garcia, publisher of The Philippine Reporter and head of the PPC-O Education Committee, was given the mandate to organize, with his members, a symposium on The Role of the Media in the Community.

PPC-O was founded in 2002 as a “non-partisan, non-religious and non-profit organization” to serve as a forum and network of media persons of Filipino background in Ontario. Currently, it has more than 50 members and its officers serve for two years.
