PCCT prexy outlines programs
NEWLY inducted Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Toronto (PCCT) President Cora de la Cruz has outlined her administration’s programs on the duration of her incumbency for this year and the next.
Mrs. de la Cruz said her 6-page blueprint calls for three major objectives aimed at how a productive Chamber of Commerce would operate for and on behalf of its members.
The new PCCT President said the first major objective is to develop new programs that would support and promote members’ businesses. She said that included in this objective are the member bulletin boards, production of a quarterly newsletter, an annual member-business directory, profiling of members’ business products and services, organization of networking events, business forums and seminars, trade shows and mentoring programs for new members.
The second major objective that the PCCT blueprint calls for are the promotion of growth and development of Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurship, expansion of a diversified membership representing different industry sectors.
The PCCT President disclosed that the PCCT is presently working with Centennial College Entrepreneurship Department in developing a program that would show them how to set up their own businesses and become successfully self-employed.
Mrs. de la Cruz said the third major objective underscored in her blueprint is aimed at widening and strengthening the business relationships in the local and main-stream business community. Among the steps that needed to be enhanced are the links with other chambers of commerce and partnering with other business associations, including national business councils like the Canada Philippine Business Council.
Mrs. de la Cruz also announced that for the first time in the history of the PCCT, the organization has rented an office and where its various clients may go and transact business with. The office is located at 21 Canadian Road, Unit # 4, in Scarborough, Ontario.
Mrs. de la Cruz spoke during the induction ball of the 2005-2006 executive officers and board of director’s of the Filipino-Canadian premier business organization in Scarborough, Ontario recently.
Sworn into office for a two-year term were Board Directors Rafael Nebres, Zeni Hunt, Rene Talavera-Siao, Bert Cruz, Gemma Jamuyot, Tess Mallari, Flor Vendiola, Bobby Achacon and the following officers, who are likewise members of the Board of Directors: Cora de la Cruz, President; Henry Sia, First Vice President- Government and Trade Relations; Oswald Tugadi, Second Vice President- Membership and Educational Programs; Ace Alvarez, Third Vice President- General Public Relations; Cristina Aguilar and George Reyes, Corporate Secretary and Assistant Corporate Secretary, respectively; and, Steve Pagao, Treasurer.
