WINDSOR–July 16th is a day that Cora Santos will never forget. A nurse by profession, she makes costume jewellery during her spare time is very happy pursuing her hobby. During the Hello Windsor event, a new door of opportunity opened for her. Santos became an overnight entrepreneur when she joined the rest of the exhibitors in showcasing their products and services.
“I got orders!” she told her friends enthusiastically.
“I never thought there are people interested in my creations. Now, I want to go into business” she added with pride.
Santos is just one of the many Filipino entrepreneurs in Windsor who were inspired to launch their own business. Dynamic couple Rudy and Leny Inting demonstrated their expertise in food catering by letting everyone taste their sumptuous dishes. They plan to pursue a catering business in Windsor and hope that the event would help promote their future endeavor.
The Manila Sunrise Filipino restaurant led by Ver Constantino, on the other hand, never failed to entice everyone’s appetite with its delicious fresh lumpia and barbecue.
Other enterprising Filipinos made Hello Windsor a great opportunity to network. Some came all the way from far away places like Immunotec distributor Julie Asfur of Fort Erie, Tianshi’s Rey Yu of Prince Edward Island, FV Foods of Toronto, Senegence’s Inday Tiro of Connecticut, USA, Yandy’s Carmen and Chito Macabuag of Hamilton and the Salad Master’s group led by Nanette Jamillarin of Missasauga.
For other guests, Hello Windsor was a day to remember. The event became an accidental reunion of Tess Salvador of Haircrafts International, Cora de la Cruz of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Tito Barrera of Filipino Community Centre. The trio had never seen one another since their high school days.
Spicing up the occasion, Michael Cacaos of Windsor skillfully played his organ while alternating it with some popular songs. Cacaos, a resident of Windsor and self-employed, hopes to make it big time in the music industry. The Salinlahi Dance Troupe of Windsor also never failed to amaze everyone with their authentic and cultural performance.
Sponsored by Western Union in cooperation with Tiro Marketing and Communications, the event aimed to gather families, learn about good health, experience the luxurious feeling of various cosmetic products, have fun, watch entertainment and taste a wide array of sumptuous dishes. It was held at the Filipino Community Centre in Northwood Centre Windsor. Admission was free and the event open to the public. Among the special guests were Manny Gascon of the Philippine Consulate of Toronto for Trade Matters, Cora de la Cruz, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce Toronto and David Cassivi, Municipal Councilor of Windsor.
The festive occasion closed with the FCC officers singing a series of Bee Gees favorites, much to the enthusiasm of the seniors.
Hello Windsor will long be remembered as it had significantly achieved its purpose to enhance the entrepreneurial acumen of the Pinoys while uplifting their community spirit.
