Eustaquio named Justice of the Peace
MILA Eustaquio was recently appointed Justice of the Peace by Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant. Assigned to Brampton/Mississauga, she is among seven new appointments to hold office starting August 2005.
Eustaquio was a board member of the Federal Immigration and Refugee Board and executive director of the Peel Multicultural Council.Until recently, she was a paralegal assistant in a Toronto law firm.
Justice of the Peace makes decisions relating to the federal Criminal Code of Canada (such as, on search war-rants, bail hearings, issuance of arrest warrants, peace bonds, subpoenas, approval of sureties of bail) and provincial offenses (offences under the Highway Traffic Act, the Building Code, Environment Act, Fisheries Act) and municipal offences (such as breach of bylaws, parking violations).
Eustaquio was also appointed (1985-1991) to the Federal Advisory Committee to the President of the Treasury Board on Employment of Visible Minorities and to the Ontario Advisory Council on Women’s Issues.
She was president of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in Metro Toronto (1982-1984) and voted UP’s “Most Outstanding Alumnus in Canada” in 1988.
She was business planning director of Urban Transportation Develop-ment Corp. (now part of Bombardier). There were about 7,000 applicants to the position. Among the previous Filipinos appointed Justice of the Peace are Delano Europa and Ric Mananquil.
