Diva, actress to lead PAMANA
Singer/actress Josephine Roces-Chavez, an American Conservatory of Music, Chicago graduate, has taken the helm as PAMANA’s Music Director, the group has announced.
A successful concert artist with a passion for the theatre, Roces-Chavez has performed all over the Philippines, Malaysia, Canada and the U.S. before settling down in Toronto, with husband Bong Chavez and their two children. She succeeds Ruby Tiburcio who has migrated to the U.S.
Roces-Chavez may be best remembered for writing the script of Cartas de Amor, a musical drama based on the tragic love story of Jose Rizal and Leonor Rivera, which was staged at the CCP, and also in Toronto and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Roces-Chavez will be leading PAMANA in several performances of Lucio San Pedro’s The 7 Last Words of Jesus Christ in churches across Metro Toronto during Lent.
The church appearances include St. Benedict’s, 2194 Kipling Ave, at 7:30 PM on March 31; Carmel Heights, Mississauga, at 3:00 PM on April 9; St. Bartholomew, 59 Heather Road, Scarborough at 7:00 PM on April 9; Blessed John 23rd, 150 Gateway Blvd, Don Mills at 7:30 PM on April 10; St. Barnabas, 10 Washburn Way, Scarborough, at 7:00 PM; and Our Lady of Assumption Church, 2565 Bathurst.
