Kalayaan’06 presents Pista sa Nayon
PISTA SA NAYON, an all day Philippine festival sponsored by Kalayaan 2006 and chaired by Dr. Christina Gamo to take place on April 29, 2006 is a month away but the committee is all set to have it happen on the day at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre Arena at the corner of Mississauga Valley Boulevard and Central Parkway in Mississauga.
The whole day festivities will officially open at 10:00 A. M. to 12:00 noon. Ching Quejas, Kalayaan 06 PRO will say the opening prayer followed by the opening remarks of Vangie Alcasid, over-all coordinator, Kalayaan 2006. She will introduce the chairman, Fund raising committee, Madge Baluca, to say a few words. She will introduce Dr. Christina Gamo, Pista chairman, who will welcome the guests and participants and then lead everybody to sing “Ang Bayan Ko”. Participating group leaders will each talk about their organization and then, again, everybody will sing “What Friends Are For”. Potluck lunch will follow.
From 1:00 to 4:30 P.M. there will be a 3 ½ -hour cultural show and presentations by the different participating organizations.. After a half-hour intermission there will be a Miss Kalayaan parade of candidates and talent show after which there will be another one hour break for dinner. Public dancing and coronation of Miss Kalayaan 2006 will be start at 8:00 P.M., to 12:00 A.M.
To compete for the Miss Kalayaan 2006 Beauty contest, candidates must be of Filipino or mixed descent, must be between 16 and 25 years old and must be represented by an association. The highest total combined points of 60% beauty and 40% fund raising (selling of tickets) will be proclaimed Miss Kalayaan 2006. A panel of judges will determine beauty on a scale of 1 to 100, the average of which will be used for calculation. Selling of Kalayaan 2006 raffle tickets will be credited to Miss Kalayaan points. Ten dollars worth of raffle tickets sold equals 10 points. All cash or certified checks must be submitted by 6:00 P.M. for the financial officers to determine the winner that will be announced exactly at 9:00 P.M. before the coronation.
Miss Kalayaan 2006 will get 30% commission on the sale of at least 200 tickets to the Pista Sa Nayon; she will receive a trophy and a sash; a gift certificate for dental bleaching/teeth whitener from Dr. Gamo; she will represent Kalayaan 2006 at the Philippine Independence Day Ball on June 10, 2006 and she will be the ambassador of goodwill until a new Miss Kalayaan is selected.
The first runner-up will be proclaimed Miss Visayas; she will receive 25% commission on at lease 200 Pista Sa Nayon tickets she sells. She will also receive a trophy and a sash. The second runner-up will be proclaimed Miss Ati-Atihan; she will get 20 % commission from her sales of at least 200 tickets of Pista Sa Nayon tickets and will also receive a trophy and a sash. Other candidates will receive 15% on the Pista Sa Nayon tickets they sell. Each candidate is also required to solicit at least 2 pages of advertisement for the souvenir program.
