Rizal Society symposium on ‘Making Poverty History in RP’ set for Sept. 2

Rizal Society symposium on ‘Making Poverty History in RP’ set for Sept. 2

The Rizal Society of Ontario will hold its second symposium to be held at the Aristokrat Restaurant, 355 Wilson Ave. (just west of Bathurst). 416 -635-6812 right after lunch from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Unlike the usually staid symposia associated with a gathering of academics, the RSO symposium is characterized by good-natured exchanges between the learned presenters and the audience.

Entitled “Making Philippine Poverty History”, the two presenters are: Sir Manny Bade, KOR. He will make his case for the secular sector, including the responsibility of business to solve the problem of poverty. In particular, he will be sharing some ideas on how to harness the power of overseas workers’ earnings. With a few people in the audience who think that profit is responsible for poverty, expect the give-and-take to get testy.

Mr. Ricky Caluen. Whatever happened to the friar lands after the Americans occupied P.I.? Where did they go? Ricky Caluen will tell you. His topic is “The Catholic Church in the Philippines, Its Brief History of Changes”. We Filipinos are pretty religious and may take exception to what Ricky will say. So be it. He’s ready to take the hot seat.

RSO’s Livvy Camacho will be moderating.

Merienda coffee and snacks will be served free.

To reserve seat, call 416 -778 -7383 or 905- 270- 2684.
