Accountants group reports
The Executive Council of the Association of Filipino Canadian Accountants reports the following activities, as it leaves the 2005 tax season behind:
(1) Completion of another year of the AFCA Free Income Tax Clinics held at various community centres in the Cities of Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, as follows: (a) Filipino Centre Toronto (March 6, team leader Ted Dayno), (b) Kababayan Community Centre (March 12, team leader Joe Ragual), (c) Adult Centre in Square One (March 13, team leader Demi Padilla), (d) Intercede (March 20, team leader Danny Reyes), (e) Silayan Community Centre (March 20, team leader Al Tupe), (f) the Gateway Centre in Mississauga (March 27, team leader Al Tupe), and (g) Centennial Recreation Centre sponsored by the Federation of Filipino Canadians of Brampton (April 16, team leader Joe Ragual).
(2) AFCA Casino Rama trip for May 14 (Saturday). Pick up time is at 9:30am in front of the Kennedy-Eglinton Subway station in Scarborough, near the Shoppers Drug Mart in a small strip plaza on the northeast corner of Eglinton Ave. and Kennedy Roads. The fee is $10 per person, which includes a free buffet lunch and bus ride.
(3) The AFCA 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament on June 4, 2005, 1:30-5pm, at the Playtime Bowl, 33 Seymore Rd, Toronto. Cost per bowler is $15, which includes bowling shoe rental, cash prizes and trophies.
(4) The annual family picnic of AFCA on July 30, 2005 (Saturday) at Simeon Park (owned by Magna International), will showcase the athleticism of AFCA members and their families, friends and guests as the organizers have lined up various games (a mini Olympic games) for both adults and children. This is a pot-luck picnic, so may bring any thing like: food, fruits, salad, rice, drinks, etc.
(5) AFCA is encouraging its members and friends to attend the upcoming convention of the National Council of Philippine American Canadian Accountants (“NCPACA”) to be held on September 2-4, inclusive. Aside from the business meetings and technical sessions, there will be social events and activities. The venue is the Sheraton Atlantic City, Atlantic City, New Jersey, about ten hours drive from Toronto. The AFCA has been a full-fledge member organization of the NCPACA for several years, having played host a couple of times with Toronto as the convention site. Early bird registration fees: US$225 for AFCA member and US$125 for guest; add $25 if you register after June 15, 2005. A CPE credit of 12 hours will be awarded to those who will attend the technical sessions. The Sheraton’s room rate is US$149 per night only for single or double occupancy. After the early bird special, the same room will cost more than US$300 a night.
