Bicol Region needs more help

The Bicol Region will wait for several years to recover from the devastation by Typhoon Reming (Durian).
Right now the six provinces of the Bicol Region namely Camarines Sur, Albay, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Masbate are restoring of their electric power despite the presence of the Geothermal plant in Tiwi, Albay,

Even agricultural plantations are heavily damaged specifically palay, banana among others except some root crops.

In the town of Caramoan, Camarines Sur, the place where I studied from Grades IV to VI, the coconut plantations are either downed or practically destroyed thus the owners’ last recourse is to transform the coconut trees into lumber wood to be used to repair and/or build their destroy- ed houses.

Aside from the coastal towns of Caramoan in Camarines Sur also heavily destroyed are the municipalities of Presentacion, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Tinambac, San Jose, Sagnay, and the towns in the so called Partido Area.

Practically all the towns in the Bicol Region are very much affected by the wrath of Typhoon Reming (Durian).

What is so sad about this is that we have received some reports that the arrival of assistance to the six provinces are too slow.

In this connection, the Bicol Canada, Inc. (BCI) through its president, Joseph Redoblado, is appealing again not only to fellow Bicolanos but to all Filipinos to help their “Kababayans” by donating to the Bicol Disaster Relief Fund Drive.

Redoblado said that they can send their cash donations to CIBC Transit # 01732 with Account # 50-05817 and if they wish to give in kind they can send them to 183 Ellendale Drive, Scarborough, Ontar io, M1P 1P3.

In the meantime, George Hontanosas and Romy Zetazate, president and press relations officers respectively of the Club Filipino of Toronto are appealing to the Filipinos at the St. Jamestown complex and Jameson in downtown Toronto to support and give to the Bicol Diaster Relief Fund Drive for the benefit of the Typhoon victims in the Bicol Region.
