LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Enough! Just Shut Up and Get to Work
To the Filipino Centre, Tonto Winners and Losers:
As the headline says, this is the feeling that probably all Filipino Canadians in the GTA would like to say about the whole-year long brouhaha about the FCT. That’s my personal feeling anyways. Now that the dust has settled down, it’s time to end the nasty, destructive, divisive and personal “war” between the two camps. Too much hurt, too much mud has been thrown to each other. This is the time for healing. This will be the new beginning that the two camps, winners or losers, must take advantage and show that they care for what they were fighting for…..the FCT.
For the winners, get moving, show your resolve to make the centre, the pride of the Filipinos. Credibility of the centre was at stake, so much so that so much money has been spent and community focus has been diverted. Enough of this! Get yourselves in order! This is now your chance to show that you are running it in a fiscally responsible manner as well as transparent in your governance and administration to prevent another fiasco. As for the elected directors, you have the obligation to the community to see to it that the FCT will be for all. Be open to the other “camp.” They can offer you their expertise that you might not have. You do not have the monopoly of expertise. In other words, be receptive and open to other ideas for the general interest of FCT. You are given a chance to govern it, all we ask, is to govern it, for the interest of the whole community. If there are valid and constructive concerns, accept and answer it to your best ability, but bear in mind also to be ready and stop the unnecessary and destructive issues that will be facing you. There will be lot to come. This is your official and moral responsibility, if not, you’ll fail us again and we do not need another wound.
For those “reformist” you have all the best intentions for FCT and you lost in a democratic manner. You were given the chance, to prove yourselves, that you can offer an alternative in FCT governance, but you were voted down. Take that as a signal and offer yourselves to cooperate for all you can for a better FCT. I hope that you will take your defeat in a constructive manner and work together in any capacity. I hope that you will take this route, and not just drop your good intentions. Show what you can do to FCT and next time, you will have the chance to be elected and become part of the governing body! Offer your expertise, give your constructive concerns, be a part of the solution but, I will ask you, do not be a part of a problem!! Wasn’t that your reason why you all ran to become a part of the FCT governance? Bring on what you have collectively, to FCT. If it’s good, I have faith that they will take your good ideas. Show the community, that you are not a poor and bitter losers but rather a better and good loser. And all your good intentions is for FCT. Or, is it? Otherwise, winners and losers, will show their true colours at the end. The community is watching you. For the two camps and principal proponents for each camp, this is what I would say ,ENOUGH!!Just Shut Up and Get Working. Work together!! Magkaisa para sa FCT!And if you are on the way, get out! Let the people with good works and intentions do their job. There must be no winners or losers, show that the Filipino community is the winner.
