PIDC launches dance contest for Mabuhay ’07

The Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) invites professional and amateur dancers to participate in “Dancing to be a Star!” Dust off your dancing shoes and strut your stuff to win the coveted “Ballroom Goldstar Award.”

Ten professional dancers and their partners will compete at this year’s “Salu-Salo sa Earl Bales” Picnic on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at which point judges will choose five couples to compete in the finals. The winning five couples will be asked to present a special dance at the picnic in the Earl Bales Park Amphitheater. The Grand Finale and winner of the event will be decided at the Mabuhay Philippines Toronto Summer Festival to be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Professional dancers should be American and International style dance teachers or senior level competitors. The top five professionals will receive a trophy, cash and other fabulous prizes.

Applicant dancers should be able to execute Latin and standard modern dances like waltz, tango, fox trot, quick steps etc. in order to be able to dance with the pros. Once selected to compete, he/she will be asked for a fee to enter the competition. There will be two big shows before the finale at the Metro Convention Centre in August. Practices will be at Gateway Centre and Rendezvous Cuisine in Mississauga and in Toronto.
