Variety show for Spring
The Magnificat Charismatic Community in Newmarket is set to mount a major production, “One Heart, One Mind” to be held at the Imperial Oil Auditorium of the Ontario Science Centre on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. The four-part variety show will showcase the talents of some of its members, notably the Magnificat Choir and the Magnificat Youth, along with artists from the Filipino community in the greater Toronto area. At the present time, featured guests who are scheduled to appear include Toronto-based Lilac Caña and Mark Ballesteros, two long-time audience favourites who have made their name as outstanding concert performers and recording artists. Ami Hernaez, hailed as an up-and-coming singing star, is also expected to enthrall and expand a growing fan base.
Joe and Annie Lapid, newly elected presiding elders of the Magnificat Charismatic Community, point out that the event will be a labour of love. “The community has been putting much of their time and effort preparing for this concert, one of the significant events we have had.” The objective of this concert will be to reach out to Filipinos and non-Filipinos with a spring extravaganza of music and entertainment, and to help raise funds to improve and expand the Oratory of Jesus, King of Mercy, built in 2003 inside the compound of Regina Mundi Retreat Centre near Newmarket, Ontario. Although this is entailing much hard work, the Lapids claim, “the members have clearly been enjoying themselves working together, knowing that their efforts are going toward a noteworthy cause… it is truly coming from their hearts.”
Tickets will range from $25-$35 per person. The Ontario Science Centre is located at 770 Don Mills Road, and parking is free after 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
