Himig Pilipino ‘Salamisim’
Himig Pilipino ‘Salamisim’
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Himig Pilipino Choral Ensemble is presenting a gala concert “Salamisim” on May 19, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre.
Throughout the years, Himig has been dedicated in the promotion and celebration of Filipino culture and heritage through music. Himig is proud to share this love and joy of music with the community and, at the same time, raise funds for charity and local projects. Part of the proceeds of this concert will be donated towards the improvements of Kalayaan Community Centre in Mississauga.
The two hour concert will feature contemporary, popular and Broadway selections in English, and for Pilipino part it will include familiar Pilipino classics, popular, religious and a medley of songs entitled Pista sa Nayon – featuring a very festive atmosphere of a typical barrio fiesta in the Philippines.
Himig represents three generations of dedicated musically inclined members that had been practicing together under the guidance of two musical directors: Cristina Sanchez and Josie Chavez. They are the juniors, from age six to thirteen, the youth from age sixteen to twenty above and the”matured” ones who had been with Himig for a long period of time. No matter what the age difference is, they blend and harmonize in the music that is typical of a Himig concert.
