TORONTO—Willie Nabus, president of the Silayan Community Centre, released the centre’s activities for the month of May this year which include the continuing monthly workshop of inter-generation consultation for seniors and young adults which covers parenting session, understanding teenage generation and bridging the gap.
A full implementation of Reaching Out Moving Forward Project- a seniors program funded by HRSDC which will run up to December this year, nutrition, recreational ,Health and Wellness Forum, communication with the doctors workshop and various referral services to government and social service agencies.
On May 12 (Saturday) – Silayan Community Centre will celebrate its’ 36th anniversary celebration- featuring the “ Barong at Saya “ and at the same time, the recognition rites of the Silayan Volunteers who serve the centre for two consecutive years two years. In the evening, a dinner-dance will be held in the Main Hall of the Saint Luke United Church located at 353 Sherbourne Street (Carlton) downtown Toronto.
On May 13 (Sunday) and May 27 ( Sunday), continuing service to women’s and caregivers – computer literacy, resume assistance and employment workshop.
On-going- (by appointment) – counselling, newcomers orientation and volunteered service training (offices and fieldwork)
Activities for all members sre underway such as strategic planning for new board members, retreat, community picnic and other leisure activities in partnership and coordination with Sunshine Centre for Seniors at Centre Island, downtown Toronto Community Housing Services- To link with former Silayan’s project initiatives “The Tahanan non-profit homes, bayanihan cooperatives homes and the Metro Toronto Housing Corporation.
On Planning Stages: Relocation for better facilities and premises, proposed to build more housing projects in partnership with all levels of government.
