Silayan Centre reports

The Silayan Community Centre, the first Filipino non-profit, social service,and charitavble organization is continuously rebuilding and strengthening its operations.

According to Willie Nabus,SCC President during the annual general meeting held recently at the Wellesley Community Centre, it has embraced programs and projects intended for the seniors, adults, and youth.

He cited the support of the New Horizon to the Seniors’ and the United Way to the Youth Leadership Program.

Nabus brought out the Ontario Government Capital Grant given to the Silayan Community Center sometime on July 2007.

He said that the SCC has iparticipated in verious community actiivites like the Cabbagetown Festival, social service fair at Queens Park., and other events.

Nabus has also mentioned the various inter-generational worshop-seminar and social justice campaign.

By the year 2008, the Silayan Community Centre will embark new partnership with other social service agencies and organiszations, he said.

He said that the SCC will work to get more funding sources and will develop new programs including capacity building and outreach project.

Aside from Nabus, the other board members of the Silayan Community Centre with unexpired terms are Sandra Anthony, Ramon Grajo, and Alice Agpoon Raynor. Reelected are Aurora Medrano, Constantine Cabarios, Amy Domingo, and Cris Benedicto.

Newly elected directors of the SCC are Carmen Sabibi, Minda Huvalle, Kingsley Martin, Eva Sen, and Mithi Esguerra. The alternate board members are Norma Villeno, Danny Ludano Flores, and Alberto Dosayla.
