Silayan new officers start term
A week aafter the success of the annual general meeting of membership of Silayan Community Centre where nine new members were voted by the assembly to the board of directors.Subsequently, the entire governing board convened to elect the Executive Committee.
Two-time (2005-2007) President, Willie Nabus although has two more years of unexpired term as director, personally begged off not to be nominated to the same post, considering the need of the centre to fill in the role of Executive Director or Chief of Staff, which is a standard of most charity organizations, who should be responsible to day-to-day operation and administration of the centre. It was also noted that the intention of Willie Nabus was to show to the community that there is always a room for succession to any new leader at the centre and will demonstrate a role model for any incumbent in any organization to train new successors as well as to give support.
The new set of officers inducted by the Vice Consul Edna May Grecia Lazaro of the Philippine Consular Office, Toronto, are as follows:

Grajo; Aurora Medrano; Alice Agpoon Raynor; Kinksley Martin; Gerry Elises, Minda Huvalla, Mithi Esquerra, Eva Sin; Reserve Directors: Norma Villeno; Danny Ludano Flores; Alberto Dosayla.
The December 15, 2007 Induction and Christmas celebration was a huge success despite the stormy weather. It was well attended by more than 80 members coming from different organizations. The Bishop of Church of England Rev Bishop Patrick Yu was among the guests, He delivered an inspirational Christmas message to the delight of the crowd. It was followed by the Vice Consul who spoke on diaspora of global Filipino migration. She called attention to the latest release of Statistics Canada on data about Filipino immigrants who are now a major player being the third largest source of immigrants to the country.
Willie Nabus, welcomed the guests and challenged the new set of officers and the community to the respond to pressing issues and the global role of Filipinos as a contributory in the Philippine treasury.and economy. The new SCC President Constantine Cabarios accepted the challenge and vowed to continue the centre’s vision to sustain growth and development.
Providing the entertainment were the San Lorenzo Ruiz Choir, The Hamilton School of Rock and the PATAC Group.
The social dance started at 9:00 pm which was enjoyed by the ballroom enthusiasts. Indeed the Estonian House was on that perfect atmosphere for the occasion which ended at 1:00 am.
