Miami audience gives standing ovation for Brampton’s Jasmine
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA–Once again, our petite, eleven-year-old Bramptonian, Jasmine Ragual, was the surprise soloist with the Brampton Symphony Orchestra (BSO) during its first of a kind concert in Miami Beach, Florida on February 3, 2008. The plush and fully renovated Colony Theatre was the venue of the concert, hosted by Mr. Miami Beach, Michael Aller and attended by dignitaries from both cities including Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell and Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower. Proceeds of the said concert benefited the SoBe (South Beach) Music Institute.
Jasmine was introduced by Maestro Robert Raines as the “not-the-average-size performer and Brampton’s own little princess” before her angelic rendition of “Castle on a Cloud”, a part sung by Cosette in the world-renowned Broadway musical “Les Miserables”.
The Miami audience indeed loved her performance and gave her a standing ovation. The concert dubbed as “Postcards from Abroad” featured performers from both countries including: stylist-vocalist singer Toni Anderson; tenor soloist Salvatorre Gambino; soprano soloist Iris Rodriguez, harpist Andrew Chan, young violinist Roderick Hyuhn Chan; percussionist Amin Kargaran, trumpeter Oscar Montoya, violin soloist Tomas Cotik, cellist Beata Szuka, pianist Ronald Greidanus, vocalist Jose Luis Amaro, and of course the 65-piece BSO ensemble, with its principal conductor Maestro Robert Raines.
On November 3, 2007, Jasmine had her first performance with the BSO as their special guest soloist during their 21st Season’s Opening concert at the Rose Theatre in Brampton. Mr. Raines was impressed by Jasmine’s professionalism and how she engages the audience which prompted him to invite her to join them into this week-long Florida tour.
For Jasmine, it was an experience that she will truly cherishes. She enjoyed the Miami heat while strolling the sandy beach , the warm reception by the city of Miami Beach at the grand Bass Museum, the surprise boat cruise, the shopping and her first airflight with her mom. Best of all, young Filipino-Canadian as she is, she was just so honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to share her musical talent with such a pool of great artists both here and abroad.
From the Federation, our kudos and more power to you Jasmine!
