As the clock strikes midnight on the last day of December 2009, many people across Canada will be ringing in the New Year with a glass of sparkling wine.
$312 million – The value of sales of sparkling wines in Canada in 2008, up 10% from 2007. Canadian products made up nearly a quarter of this amount.
19 million litres – The volume of sparkling wines sold in Canada in 2008. That is equivalent to nearly 25 million 750 ml bottles!
By volume, Canadians drank the equivalent of nearly 10 million 750 ml bottles of domestic sparkling wines and more than 15 million 750 ml bottles of imported bubbly in 2008.

Fall and winter 2008 registered the highest sales of exercise and fitness equipment at large retailers in Canada. Sales of exercise and fitness equipment at large retailers generally peak in January.
$36 million – The value of sales of exercise and fitness equipment at large retailers in January 2009, up 30% from the previous month and up 123% from the monthly average of $16 million in 2008.
$28 million – The value of sales of exercise and fitness equipment at large retailers in December 2008, up 78% from the previous month.
