UPAA golf tournament May 30

UPAA will hold its Golf Tournament on May 30, 2010 and another one on May 29, 2011 at the Lionhead Golf and Country in Brampton. The goal is to raise the equivalent of a minimum one million pesos for the UPAA Endowment Fund. UPAA has put together the same amount a few years ago; the final cheque was handed over to the UP President in Diliman, at the UP Centennial in 2008. The endowment funds sustain some hardworking academicians in their research or book writing, and nourish a good number of Iskolar ng Bayan.

UPAA president Joe Zagala regularly exhorts the crew to pull harder and more. Prominent artist Romi MananQuil, one of the treasures of UPAA designed the logo. It features the UP oblation inside the T, signifying that the alumni are holding the golf tournament in the name of the beloved alma mater in order to support its academe and studentry. The golfer is in motion of swinging to Tee Up High, the ball up in mid-air. The logo uses the maroon and green colors of the university.

The tournament corporate sponsor is Richmond Hill Toyota, which will provide a brand new Corolla car for each tournament date as prize for Hole-in-One. Plans are also being finalized for Richmond Hill Toyota to donate monies to the UPAA endowment funds. La Salle Alumni Association has joined hands, and other alumni associations are being lined up to assist as well. At press time, sponsorships (Tee Box and Golf Carts) are monopolized by many UPians, including Dr. Mario Andres, Dr. Nanette de Villa, Dr. Vicky Santiago, Dr. Francis Rementilla, Jo Flach; past UPAA presidents Bay Bernabe, Noel Cruz, Linda Mogado-Etzkorn, Mon Exmundo, Geny Toribio, Evelyn Laraya, and Tom de la Torre.
