Warning from Palace, Supreme Court officials to Noynoy Aquino: ‘Accept Arroyo’s appointment of Chief Justice or face a crisis’

MANILA, Philippines – Palace and Supreme Court (SC) officials urged president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to accept Justice Renato Corona’s appointment as the new Chief Justice, in order to avoid clashes between the new administration and the courts.

SC spokesperson Midas Marquez said the country “will face a crisis” if the president does not recognize the authority of the SC, which has the final say on Constitutional law and other judicial matters.
