Full day kinder offered in 900 schools

Full day kinder offered in 900 schools

Almost half of Ontario’s four-and-five-year olds will benefit from full-day kindergarten in September 2012.

That school year, around 900 more schools will start offering full-day kindergarten — which means that a total of about 120,000 children will benefit. Full-day kindergarten will be available in all elementary schools by September 2014.

A full day of learning early in life makes the transition to Grade 1 easier for both parents and children.
Also, students who achieve early success in school are more likely to go on to postsecondary education.

QUICK FACTS

• Full-day kindergarten began in September 2010 at almost 600 schools and more than 200 will be added in September 2011.

• In September 2012, close to 1,700 schools will offer full-day kindergarten.

• The Ontario government has allocated $420 million to help schools make room for full-day kindergarten.
