5th seminar for PH trained teachers

Firmly and appropriately committed to offering strategic professional development and career building opportunities to internationally educated teachers, especially Philippine trained teachers, the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC) in partnership with Kababayan Community Centre Multicultural Services (KCC) is holding its “5th Annual Seminar on Access to the Teaching Profession for Internationally Trained Professionals” June 4, 2011, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Toronto Public Library, Parkdale Branch Auditorium, 1303 Queen Street West, (Cowan & Brock Avenues), Toronto.
The free seminar aims to provide up-to-date information and insights to more than 60 participants who are interested in Ontario teacher certification and also those who are seeking employment in education and/or education allied sectors. The themefor the whole day event is aptly titled: “ Internationally Trained Teachers : Career Building, Prospects and Challenges.”
The targeted attendees are : newcomers, immigrants, work permit holders, permanent residents or citizens who are professionally trained teachers and considered under Bill 124 as those teachers “educated internationally or trained outside the province” who need to restart & practice their profession in the province. Participants shall receive a “Certificate of Achievement.”
Invited as guest speakers and resource persons are noted teaching professionals, principals, and education practitioners in Ontario. They will be discussing topics on : Ontario teacher certification procedures; career opportunities and prospects; teaching job search strategies and networking; and meeting challenges of immigrant teachers.
This outreach initiative is a joint project of the Kababayan Community Centre Multicultural Services ( KCC), a 33- year old settlement and integration service agency in the GTA with Flor Dandal as Executive Director, and the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC), a five- year old organization of Philippine – and Ontario College of Teachers – registered teachers headed by its President, Tony A. San Juan, OCT.
