Pinay lawyer is Liberal bet for MPP in Hamilton
Donna Tiqui-Shebib, volunteer, lawyer and active community member has been, nominated by an excited and cheering crowd as the Ontario Liberal candidate in Hamilton Centre.
“I am so honoured to get this chance to represent the people of Hamilton Centre. I am committed to fighting for social justice at Queen’s Park, just as I have done here in Hamilton,” she said. “I hope to be the first Philippine-Canadian ever to be elected to the legislature.”
After being called to the bar in 2005, Tiqui-Shebib determined that her talents as a legal practitioner would best be used helping the most vulnerable and disadvantaged of Hamilton’s core. Tiqui-Shebib is now a sole legal practitioner in downtown Hamilton, focusing upon matrimonial, family and immigration law.
Tiqui-Shebib is involved in a multitude of volunteer organizations in and around Hamilton.
She currently sits on the board of directors for the Miles for Smiles organization, which benefits youth in the city core. Miles for Smiles runs an annual bike ride and silent auction which is greatly supported by the legal community in Hamilton.
When she is not involved in her legal practice or volunteering, Donna is a frequent marathon runner and enjoys the serenity of a good book.
The provincial election will take place on October 6th, 2011. For more information, please visit www.ontarioliberal.ca.
