The Canada-Philippines Solidarity for Human Rights (CPSHR) and Migrante-BC, pay tribute to Jack Layton!

Our deepest condolences go out to Olivia Chow, the love of his life and strong companion and partner in making politics work for the working-class Canadians…to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Our thoughts go out to many of us Canadians, who will miss his leadership, the voice of the marginalized and exploited. Likewise, he saw the suffering of a human being anywhere in the world as an equally important political problem. Concrete in his actions, CPSHR and Migrante-BC recognize and will remember his staunch support and solidarity with the Filipino people’s struggle for just peace. In April 2008, he received and hosted three progressive Representatives from the Philippine Congress in Ottawa and was instrumental for their appearance to the House of Commons Subcommittee on International Human Rights on the case of political persecution and human rights violations.

Jack Layton’s foreign policy was guided by a commitment to values of global cooperation to advance peace and justice.

In the politics of remembering, Jack Layton will always live.
Farewell and rest in peace.
