Certified teachers’ consultation on Oct. 22

Autumn is upon us. School has started and summer has just ended. And teachers are “back to the groove” . T’is is also, for others a time of renewed interest and reasonable enthusiasm in having and doing productive tasks for individual advancement and for keeping up—- to achieve personal or professional success. This is the universal tradition and in Canadian enviroment, as well.

The Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC), is a firm believer of the concept that “continuous education is a lifelong process”. Thus, to meet its established role as a pioneering professional teachers organization in the Filipino Canadian community , PTAC will be conducting its “ 2nd Career Consultation Forum for Philippine Educated Teachers” on October 22nd, 2011 ,Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Time Zone Resto, 3426 Bathurst Road, North York, Toronto. This yearly event is being sponsored by Durham Centre of Excellence (D’Centex), a training and settlement & integration centre in the Durham Region.

The Roundtable Forum is aimed at providing career planning opportunities to interested participants who are Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT) currently “in transition”—those hoping to restart their teaching career. As well, the event would help those in the process of teacher licensing and/ or planning to be certificated in Ontario. The Forum attendees are expected to gain first-hand information and insights regarding : education sector employment, job search, career action planning, networking, career alternatives, and other relevant strategies and resources for a successful educational career placement.

Notable teachers, school administrators, and education practitioners from TDSB, TCDSB, DPCDSB, & PDSB who are also members of the GTA Filipino Canadian community are invited and will share their professional expertise and experiences with about 55 attendees. Members of the Forum Committee include : Elena Aguilar, Meliton Tumamao, Joan Ang, and Rose Apilado.

The Philippine Teachers Association of Canada, organized in April, 2006, is headed by President Tony A. San Juan, OCT. Its Executive Directorate is composed of: Rose Cruz, Boni Curutan(OCT), Bernadette Gapuz, Pet Collantes, Mila Curutan, Sam Posadas(OCT), Rosette Santiago,Sonia Pascual, Rose Apilado(OCT),Noemi Andaya, Dr. Ramon Morales(OCT), Joan Ang(OCT), Arthur Apilado,Venus Geraneo,Gigi Nicolas. Lily Gacutan, Alma Mabazza, Mercy Santos,and Amparo Rosario. The advisers include : Leonie Manzanares, Marlene Mogado, Rose Bustamante and Emiliano Silverio.
