IvyJoy  Maniquiz and Rico Callao

KALAYAAN CULTURAL COMMUNITY CENTRE

RICO CALLAO

Autumn is here, the time when our eyes take in the gorgeous colour change of the leaves as we smell the crisp and cold fresh air, also a time of harvest and gathering together.  On Saturday, November 26 at 8 p.m., the Kalayaan Cultural Community Centre in Mississauga (5225 Orbitor Drive) with Ivy Joy Maniquiz and Rico Callao, will bring together a show – “ As Time Goes By” , an Autumn presentation of Kalayaan Centre.

Ivy Joy Maniquiz started singing at age 9.  An 8-week undefeated champion of “Tanghalan ng Kampeon” in 1991 and was a soloist of the highly acclaimed UST Singers bringing home the Grand Prize in the 49th Llangollen Eistedfodd international choral singing competition.  She has toured Europe, recorded an album in Germany and has also participated in theatre workshops under Trumpets and was a part of the 50th Anniversary presentation of Peter Pan in Singapore.   In Canada, she has performed at several musical events in the GTA including CCMP South Pacific as Bloody Mary, singing ‘Bali Ha’i’ with the air of mystery that it requires and received the best supporting actress role in 2010. She is now a vocalist and an active member of Champion Life Centre in Brampton.

Rico Callao is a product of the popular singing contest, “Bagong Kampeon”, and was first runner-up to Regine Velasquez. He was a member of the Opera Chorus of the Philippines and was the top winner of the “Singing Yuppies”, a young professionals singing contest sponsored by the Philippines Center for Pop Music.  He is now a vocalist and member of the Portico Community Church Choir in Mississauga and has performed significant roles in stage plays among various community events in the GTA.  Rico’s passion is to be able to use his God-given talent and love of music to entertain and touch people’s lives.
