Teachers convene for certification, placement
Purposefully pursuing its collegial mandate and desire to engage and involve practicing and prospective teachers and educators in Ontario, the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC) will hold a conference on challenging opportunities in the education realm. To meet this expectation of achieving recognition and productive placement in the highly competitive teacher job market, the Filipino Canadian teachers organization will be conducting its “6th Annual Teacher Conference on Professional Certification and Career Building” on May 26th, 2012, Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Saint Christopher House-SCH Supportive Housing Hall, # 20 West Lodge Avenue, Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Focusing on the theme “Career Search, Building and Networking for Teachers”, the event will explore relevant topics covering : teacher certification procedures and requirements, career search skills and strategies, establishing career network, and understanding career alternatives for teachers. The one-day event aims to discuss and present to the registered participants perspectives and insights impacting their profession as well as to serve as a forum for networking and exchanges of convergent teaching ideas, tools and strategies.
Expected to attend are about 65-75 newcomer-immigrants, work-permit holders, permanent residents and citizens who are considered to be internationally-trained teachers and/ or identified educators from the Philippines and other countries. Seminar attendees will be served a courtesy light lunch and provided a “Certificate of Participation.”
Tapped to serve as guest- presenters and resource persons are experienced and practicing educators in the GTA school boards including an officer of the Ontario College of Teachers- the province’ professional regulatory agency, and principals and education leaders, as well, from the Filipino Canadian and mainstream learning communities.
The free seminar project is a joint initiative of the Kababayan Community Centre Multicultural Services, a 35- year old immigrants settlement and integration service agency with Flordeliza Dandal as its executive director, and the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada (PTAC), a six- year old socio -professional organization of Ontario- and -Philippine certified and practicing educators in various educational institutions. PTAC is headed by Tony A. San Juan, a certified educator in Ontario.
