OBITUARY: Concordia Teodoro Vitonio

OBITUARY: Concordia Teodoro Vitonio

August 13, 1918 – September 19, 2012

Born in Caloocan City, Philippines, Concordia was the third child of 8 siblings of Ciriaco Teodoro and Maria Layco. She has one living brother, Salvador Teodoro (Philippines) and a sister Luzviminda Ilano (Toronto, Canada).

Married to Rev. Nemesio Vitonio, she raised three children: Carolito, Naomi and Neftalie. Her life revolved around church activities, filling her church with her sounds from the organ and piano at church services. She was a devoted Christian, a strong leader, both while in the Philippines and here at Saint Luke’s United Church, her adopted place of worship.

She worked outside the home and was the sole provider for her growing family. She had strong work ethics – always ready for work and never complained. Her determination was a big part of her personality, always believing that she can do what she set her mind to.

Helping others was part of her life, not an obligation, but her natural way of thinking. She managed the Children’s Feeding Program and Mother’s Help Program in their local community. She was named Mother of the Year for several years at local schools and charitable organizations.

She came to Canada in March 1973. In June of the same year her son, Carolito passed away; which led her to adopt her two granddaughters, Carol Joy and Leilani.

She worked at Central Park Lodge as a caregiver for ten years and after retiring, continued to work caring for an elderly person for a few more years.

For her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she built a strong spiritual foundation that has been etched in their memories and has always been a guiding light in their lives.

She will be remembered for her beautiful arts and crafts, crochet scarves, dried flower cards, baskets; her smiling face, her accommodating gestures to everyone she met and most of all her contribution to the life of our church.

She may be gone, but never gone from our hearts. We embrace the faith she left to us and we thank the Lord that we have her as our Mother.

Beauty and grace, through her expressions of faith.
Comfort and tears, she helps calm our fears.
Love and Life, she’s always our guide.
There’ll never be another, she’s forever our Mother.
