CPAC celebrates new graduates for nurses
TORONTO– On January 27, 2013, a graduation ceremony was held by the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada (CPAC) to celebrate the successful completion of the second cycle of the training courses by the participants of “CPAC-Gateway for Internationally Educated Nurses Program”. Over a hundred participants are getting help from this career bridging program launched by CPAC in October 2011 with funding from the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada. The program aims to help internationally educated nurses (IEN) obtain registration and find employment in Ontario.
As an important component of the program, the 40 plus hours of classroom training courses “Introduction to Nursing Practice in Ontario” and “Workplace Culture and Communication Training” began last September and came to an end this month. The instructor is a Nurse Practitioner at UHN and a Lecturer at the University of Toronto. She has extensive clinical and teaching experiences, plus a deep insight into the international nursing practices.
“Attending the courses from CPAC has helped enhance my skills and knowledge regarding Nursing in Ontario. It has also helped me to boost my confidence to pursue my goal in my nursing field,” said Maria Mariane, an internationally educated nurse from the Philippines and one of the program graduates, who just obtained her nursing license. “To my fellow IENs, just be patient, be persistent, believe in yourself, and always think positive. Thank CPAC for helping me in achieving my career goal,” continued Maria.
The next classroom training courses will begin this March. The recruitment of participants is underway. In addition to the training courses, the other components of the Gateway Program for IENs include one-on-one mentoring support, study groups for exam preparation and employment services.
