UPAAT to hold job search seminar

UPAAT to hold job search seminar

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association Toronto is holding a Career Development seminar on March 23, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the North York Civic Centre- committee room #1 , 5100 Yonge Street, North York. An ongoing program of UPAAT, the seminar aims to provide Filipino professionals with appropriate tools to get a job that is in line with their Philippine education, background, training and experience. The seminar is tailored for new Filipino immigrants, not-so-new Filipino Canadians who lost their jobs and are seeking new employment, and those with jobs but are hoping to move to another career that is more in line with their Philippine education and experience.

Topics will cover Canadian labour market, bridging programs for newcomer professionals and inter-agency mentoring programs; personal branding and networking; resume writing and critique; job interview preparation, and interview lab and critique. Speakers are selected experts in the field.

Registration fee is $15 to cover meals and presentation materials. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to all participants who completed the seminar. Payment can be made in cash, cheque or Paypal. Make cheques payable to the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Toronto. For Paypal, go to UPAA Toronto website at www.upaatoronto.org. Limited seats are available, so participants are encouraged to book early. They can also contact: Don Alinea, 647-985-2814 and Alice Herrera, 647-408-2360; or email: upaacareerdev@yahoo.ca.

Several previous participants to this series of seminars have expressed appreciation that they attended; one of them, Francis Roque, who attended in 2010 stated , “ The job skills training that I received

via this Seminar was invaluable during my employment search. (It) helped me look “outside” the box and explore (other) avenues, and leverage resources that I did not think I had access to. I highly recommend this to anyone who is serious about successfully landing … the right job.”
