Kababayan elects new chairperson
TORONTO–Kababayan Multicultural Centre (o/a Kababayan Community Centre Multicultural Services) held its 36th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Attended by nearly seventy members, KMC elected two (2) new Board members and reelected 2 incumbent Board members to complete its (9) nine-member Board.
Newly elected as Chairperson is Enrico Esguerra. Ric Esguerra is a long-time committed volunteer of Kababayan Multicultural Centre and held various committees before his election to this position. Completing the roster of Kababayan’s Executive Committee are: Vice-Chairperson, Eric Escuadra; Remedios Marcon, Treasurer; Gayle Capulong, Secretary; and, Ana Labasug, Assistant Secretary. Rounding up the Board of Directors are: Julius Agamata, Tsewang Norbu, Omar Taladua and Zeddie Valerio.
Kababayan is a registered charity organization whose mission is to develop a strong immigrant community that is proud of its cultural heritage and its contribution to Canada by: providing settlement services to facilitate integration of newcomers; addressing systemic and institutional barriers to social inclusion; adopting people-oriented approach in services delivery; recognizing skills, experience and education of newcomers; and, collaborating with partner agencies and organizations in the building of a humane and just society.
Since 1977, Kababayan has touched the lives of more than 25,000 newcomers and delivered an estimated 100,000 services. It is the only Filipino charity organization that is open seven days a week. This year, KMC opened its Bathurst-Finch Office to service the increasing number of newcomers in Northwest Toronto community. Your partnership support is critical in maintaining and enhancing the services that Kababayan provides.
In recognition of its clientele’s needs, KMC established another office in the Bathurst-Finch area to reach out to newcomers in that area. KMC now serves in two locations:
