Alex Chiu Foundation pledges $20K for typhoon survivors
MARKHAM–As most of you know the Philippines has been devastated by one of the strongest storms in history resulting in massive loss of lives and properties. Through the Alex Chiu Golf Tournament, I will be allocating $20,000 to the victims of this recent catastrophe.
In addition, in partnership with the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians, a concert will be held to raise money for this cause. The show, A Taste of Broadway – Curtain Call performed by the organization’s youth performing arts group will held at Richmond Hill Theatre on January 4, 2014. This show’s first run was sold out at the Markham Theatre on October 26, 2013. This follow-up show provides an opportunity to those who missed it last time and at the same time support the victims of Yolanda/Haiyan. Below are several other ways for you to donate and lend support:
Buying fundraising tickets to Mayor’s 2014 Chinese New Year Community Dinner. Proceeds from this event will be directed to Markham charities and to Philippine charitable support.
Make donation to this cause through the charitable organization of your choice.
For other Canadian relief options, visit Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development website at www.international.gc.ca.
In the Philippines, we consider everyone to be an Auntie or Uncle, everyone is your relative and when someone needs help, we help. Please consider your brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles thousands of kilometres away who desperately need your help to get clean food, water, medicine and a safe place to stay.
Please email cfan@markham.ca or call 905-305-5977 if you are interested to purchase tickets for the Mayor’s 2014 Chinese New Year Community Dinner and/or the Taste of Broadway – Curtain Call and/or to donate to either event.
