Knights mark Rizal’s 153rd birth anniversary
If you happen to visit Scarborough, along McCowan Rd., you will be surprised to be greeted by young students with a “Magandang Hapon Po!” or some students getting your hand, and asking for your blessing, “Mano Po!”. They are students of Ms. Maria Regala from St. Ignatius Catholic School. She is conducting Filipino Classes to Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike.
This year, in coordination with the Canada Rizal Region, the life of Jose Rizal was introduced in her Filipino classes. Life of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines is being taught every two weeks in two classes to a mix Filipino/ non-Filipino students from Grade 6-8. The students have shown so much interest in learning about Jose Rizal, and the great things done by our National Hero, worldwide.
Rizal Canada Region Commander, Sir George R. Poblete, KGCR and Region Deputy Commander Sir Jaime T. Marasigan, KGOR are conducting these classes on the Life of Rizal every two weeks to the Grade 6,7 and 8 students.
Central Canada Celebration of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s Birthday
The Order of the Knights of Rizal will celebrate the 153th Birthday of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in Central Canada at St. Ignatius Catholic School in Scarborough and in the Rizal Monument in Earl Bales Park, Bathurst Ave. in Toronto.
In the end of the this school term (2014) at St. Ignatius School, Rizal Canada Region will conduct three contests on Rizal to these students of St. Ignatius: The Rizal Caricature, Short Essay on Rizal and Rizal Look-alike contests to the Filipino Class students.
The Caricature and Essay contests will be held on May 27, 2014, while the Rizal look-alike contest will be conducted during the Filipino Students presentation at St. Ignatius school grounds in Scarborough on June 19, 2014.
The entrants for the Rizal Look-Alike contest will parade in front of the judges on the June 19 Philippine Day presentation at St. Ignatius School grounds at noon. The Filipino classes students are very enthusiastic in participating in these contests. (Note: students in this Filipino Class come from different cultures (any male and female student may enter in this contest; Rizal actually 5’4” only in stature.). Contestants may dress and apply make-up to look like Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
In the afternoon of June 19, 2014, Rizal Birthday ceremonies will be held at Rizal monument at Earl Bales Park, Bathurst Ave, Toronto.
• The winners above, will be invited to attend the Floral Offering at Earl Bales Park, Bathurst Street, Toronto at 5:00 PM on the same Day to celebrate the 158th Birthday Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
Major activities at Earl Bales Park will include:
• Assembly at Earl Bales Park at 4:30 PM.
• At 5:00 PM, the Philippine and Canadian officials, Knight Commanders and ladies will offer their Floral Wreaths to Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
• A short Program will follow. This will include messages by the Ambassador/ Consul General,
Canadian Official and Canada Region Commander.
• Refreshments will be served.
• At 6:30 PM, attendees will proceed to the Earl Bales Park Hall, where there will be a display on Rizal.
• At 7:00 PM, there will be short program on Rizal and award presentations.
• At 8:00 PM , dinner will be served.
Rizal Birthday celebration in Central Canada is celebrated by the Knights and Ladies in the Greater Toronto Area. Celebrations are also held in Montreal, Ottawa, Windsor and Winnipeg.
Rizal Day is also being celebrated in the Philippines, International Regions (U.S.A., Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Australia and Oceania, Asia and most countries of the world.
