First-ever Halo-Halo Festival to happen in Toronto

Toronto-based non-profit Halo-Halo Organization (h2o) will inaugurate the very first Halo-Halo Festival in Canada, which will be held on August 17, 2014, from 8am to 10pm, at Artscape Wychwood Barns in Toronto.

According to one of the organizers, Hernani de Leon, the cultural event aims “to communicate with the younger Filipino generation who were born and raised in Canada, and instill Philippine history and tradition through arts and entertainment.”

“We also invite other nationalities to experience the world-renowned Filipino hospitality through a fun-filled day of culinary, traditions, and recreation,” De Leon added.

Halo-Halo means ‘mix-mix’ and is a popular Filipino dessert. In recent years, Halo-Halo has garnered popularity in mainstream media, with the proliferation of non-Filipino restaurants serving the dessert as a summer treat.

Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr., Consul General of the Philippines Honourable Junever Mahilum-West and Ward 21 Councillor Joe Mihevc are guests to the event.

The Philippine Consulate will be on-site to provide Overseas Voting Registration to Filipinos. All that is needed of registrants is a photocopy of their Filipino passport . They will also conduct Q & A sessions on Dual Citizenship and Passport Renewal.
