Ontario Filipino Women’s Club marks 32 years
It is with great pride and jubilation that the officers and members of the Ontario Filipino Women’s Club (OFWC) celebrated their 32nd anniversary with a Viennese theme party at Ellas Banquet Hall, Toronto, last Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014.
The highlight of the celebration was the coronation of Chona Stinson as the OFWC’s 2014 Queen and Anne Yamoto Licyayo as the 2014 Princess. Both ladies were instrumental in raising funds for the Herbie Fund at the Sick Kids Hospital.
President Annabelle Migalbin who will be stepping down next year after heading the club for four successful years, gathered her staff and members together to put forth a memorable evening.
Emceed by Rebecca Reyes and Angeli Hopper, who are both officers of the club, the evening was marked with song and dance performers. The Agape Dancers entertained the audience with Filipino folk dances. Betty and John wowed the audience with their ballroom dancing and daring lifts.
Jennifer Camacho sang a medley of songs that got the audience up on their feet and dancing. Victoria Flores sang a beautiful Filipino song entitled “Hawak Kamay”. Britanny Waito and Jujelyn Brown gave a wonderful rendition of the Canadian and Philipine National Anthems, Michelle Rasie serenaded her sister, outgoing 2013 Princess Melissa Rasie and 2013 Queen Mary Grace Enciso as they made their final walk as Queen and Princess.
But the main attraction for the night was Julia, our six year old singer who impressed and entertained everyone by singing the famous song “Let it Go” from the Disney movie “Frozen”. The event was also graced by the presence of Senator Tobias Enverga, Deputy Consul General Susanna Paez and Hildegard Gmeiner, who addressed the crowd that evening and acknowledged the hard work that has been done.
No one can forget the closing performance of the OFWC’s Rockettes (officers and members of the OFWC) dancing to the tune of New York, New York which brought the house down. It was a truly fun-filled evening and the after-event dancing went on till very late. This celebration was supported by many volunteers as well as by Luminous Financial who were on hand to assist.
The OFWC anniversary celebration was an overwhelming success, and if the future leaders of this club continue the vision and work set by their predecessors, we can look forward with anticipation to another 32 years of success.
