MFFC marks 25th year
The Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians celebrated its Silver Anniversary Gala in fashion at the Crystal Fountain Banquet Hall. The evening was filled with awards, photo-ops, lively music, delicious food, fine performances, door prizes and lots of dancing! Emcees Karen Tan and Aaron James Abanador guided the night celebration expertly. The program commenced with the opening remarks from the gala chair, Lolita Bruneau. The prayer before meal was led by Father Albuen. The audience were entertained during the dinner courses. The MFFC Seniors donned their exotic Hawaiian outfits and danced gracefully. The MFFC Youth Performing Arts Group moved and inspired people to hum and dance with them as they rendered the Beatles medley. The seniors returned for another round of Line dancing.
The event’s highlight was the awarding of the 2014 Most Distinguished Achievement Awards. The recipients were Dr. Mario Andres (Professional and Community Service), Ma-Anne Dionisio (Performing Arts), Rafael Fabregas (Professional), CTV’s Melissa Grelo (TV Broadcasting and Journalism), Eric Tappenden (Business and Industry) and Mayor Frank Scarpitti (Public Service). The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to a surprised long time Ward 8 Councilor of Markham, Alex Chiu for all his years of dedicated service to the community and support to MFFC.
Eric Tappenden of Chapel Ridge Funeral Home presented the MFFC with a generous cheque for $2,700. The Alex Chiu Golf Tournament also donated a huge amount of $10,000.00 to the MFFC to support its programs. Closing remarks were given by MFFC Chair, Yoly Ladines.
Congratulations to all of the awardees and to the MFFC for their continued success.
