Yolanda survivors to receive homes from SM Cares, ANCOP
During its 2015 ANCOP WALK launch at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, ANCOP Canada International president, Ricky Cuenca, revealed its partnership with the SM Foundation to provide 400 typhoon-resilient homes to the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
The Palo Archbishop donated the land in New Kawayan, Tacloban City. ANCOP Canada International will fund 100 of these homes and SM Cares will take care of the Home construction. These homes are expected to be completed within 2015, complete with roads, electricity and water facilities.
After their settlement, it is expected that the family beneficiaries will continue to receive support from local church volunteers and members of Couples For Christ (CFC) in their children’s education and livelihood programs to make sure that their transformation and complete rehabilitation are sustained.
ANCOP International Canada, known by its partners simply as ANCOP, updated the audience with the completed and ongoing shelter and child sponsorship projects not only in the Philippines but also in Ghana, India and Kenya. Since its inception in 2002, ANCOP has gone global bringing hope and transformation to thousands of poor families and children. Having poured millions of dollars into the Philippines to finance the various programs for the poor,
ANCOP’s major fundraising activity is the ANCOP WALK held annually in no less than thirteen cities and locations across Canada. The ANCOP walk started in Canada and is now also being held in other countries like in the Philippines, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and even in Kuwait. The ANCOP WALK in the Philippines started with 50,000 participants in its first year, grown to 80,000 in its second year and 110,000 on its third year.
The 2015 ANCOP WALK in Toronto is scheduled on Saturday, August 15, 2015 to start at David Pecaut Square in downtown Toronto.
A student in Vancouver single handedly raised fifteen thousand to help the children she visited during her school’s annual immersion program. A church parishioner donated an additional $30,000 to fund livelihood program to a 100-shelter village that her parish sponsored and built.
There are many ways to help individually or as a group. More information is available to a newly refreshed ANCOP website at www.ancopcanada.org or from Twitter and social media: @ancopcanada and @ancopwalkcanada.
