Liberals not doing enough to help job-seeking Ontarians: NDP

Liberals not doing enough to help job-seeking Ontarians: NDP

QUEEN’S PARk–Catherine Fife, NDP Finance Critic and MPP for Kitchener-Waterloo, responded to new job numbers issued today by Statistics Canada. She said the numbers show that too many Ontarians are still out of work, too many families are still struggling to make ends meet, and too many young people are still having a hard time getting their start in the working world.

“The Liberals are continuing to fail Ontarians,” said Fife. “Kathleen Wynne should be focused on making life easier for Ontarians—not harder.”

Of all Canadian cities, Windsor had the highest unemployment rate and Barrie had the highest youth unemployment rate in June at 26.5%. 3500 jobs were lost in Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge since May.

“Families deserve a job strategy that will bolster our struggling manufacturing sector. Young people deserve a real opportunity to find well-paying meaningful work,” said Fife.

This week, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce said that rising electricity prices are making it harder for businesses to grow and create good stable jobs. Meanwhile, the Liberal government is plowing ahead with its plan to sell off 60% of Ontarians’ Hydro One—a move that’s going to raise electricity prices rise in the province and kill jobs.

“The privatization of Hydro One is a bad decision for Ontario businesses and a bad decision for Ontario families,” said Fife.
