PC’s Lorne Coe wins Whitby-Oshawa by-election

WHITBY–This evening, Ontario PC Candidate Lorne Coe was announced the winner of the provincial by-election in the riding of Whitby-Oshawa.

“Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who helped out each and every day, and to the residents of Whitby-Oshawa who have placed their trust in me,” said Coe to a crowded room of supporters.  “I am so honoured to be continuing the legacy of advocacy and strong representation of progressive conservative values that our riding has seen under both Christine Elliott and the late Jim Flaherty.”

Coe added, “I’d like to thank the other candidates for a hard-fought campaign debating the issues that are important to the people of Whitby-Oshawa and Durham Region.”

An overwhelming number of Whitby-Oshawa residents have rejected the Wynne Liberals wasteful spending, financial incompetence, cuts to essential services, and continued mismanagement of Ontario’s economy. Tonight, the people of Whitby-Oshawa said they will support a Party and a candidate who will stand up against a government that doesn’t have Ontarians’ best interests at heart.

“Today the people of Whitby-Oshawa sent a strong message that the Liberal government is moving Ontario in the wrong direction,” said Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown.  “Whitby-Oshawa residents voted against the Wynne Liberals’ skyrocketing hydro rates, cuts to essential health care services, a dragging economy, and continued mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.”

“We spent this campaign knocking on doors listening to residents’ concerns, and talking about the potential of Ontario,” added Leader Patrick Brown.  “The people of this province want change in 2018. They want to hope again and they want to believe that Ontario will be great once again.”

Coe concluded, “For years, I have worked tirelessly for Whitby and Durham Region as your councillor, and I will do the same as your MPP.  I promise to represent the best interests of the residents of Whitby-Oshawa day-in and day-out at Queen’s Park.”
