3 dead, 87 missing, 116 hurt as police fire on Cotabato human barricade
MANILA–Three persons died after security forces opened fire as they dispersed on farmers and lumad who have been blockading the Cotabato-Davao highway in Kidapawan City late Friday morning.
The number of injured had climbed to 116 as of 10 p.m. Friday, according to Ariel Casilao of Anakpawis.
Norma Capuyan, chair of the lumad organization Sandawa Lumadnong Panaghiusa-Cotabato, said one of the fatalities was a man.
InterAksyon.com could hear gunshots in the background as Jerome Succor Aba, spokesman of Moro human rights group Suara Bangsamoro, described the situation while the dispersal was going on around 10:30 a.m.
Aba later said he, too, had suffered injuries to the leg from strikes from a police baton and shield.
