The seniors’ Affair to Remember

April 30, 2016 will be etched in the memory of more than 170 members and guests who attended the Spring Dance at the KCCC sponsored by the Filipino Seniors of Mississauga (FSM) led by its President, Vangie Alcasid, and chaired by the Vice-President, Peter Santos.

IMG_2515Attendees started arriving at 6:00 in the evening, the ladies in their springy, flowery outfits, all ready to dance the night away. After the invocation by Mila Santos, a sumptuous dinner prepared by Ellen’s Place Restaurant was followed by an array of tempting desserts even those on a diet could not resist. It was during the dinner that a slide show about the seniors was presented by Jimmy Villamater. True to its name, the evening opened with dancing with almost everybody filling up the dance floor. The dancers, seniors and the young alike were quick on their feet, dancing to rock n’ roll and cha-cha music, or just traipsing the light fantastic. It was evident that even with the passing of the years, our seniors have not succumbed to the aches and pains that come with age. It was a sight to behold! After a couple of danceable tunes provided by our music man, Chito Carbonell, the music stopped to give way to some announcements by the emcees of the evening, Vangie Alcasid and Elsie Paez. A whole lot of gifts donated by very generous donors were raffled off. The 50/50 draw also saw three lucky winners.

DSCF3147Guests were entertained by a couple of songs rendered by the FSM Choral Group under the able tutelage of Ms. Imelda Papa and piano accompaniment by Mrs. Ellen Virey, highlighted by the vocal rendition by Vangie Alcasid. Mr. Tim Evangelista belted love songs of yesteryears. Dance exhibitions by Step by Step led by Efren and Nydia Nene, mainstay performances at most KCCC and FSM and other celebrations delighted the audience.

One of the features of the event was the introduction of the newly elected Executive Officers and Committee Chairs of the organization. Pons Canonizado, a long time supporter and now a member, was given the honour to introduce each one of them, who stood proud as a group to serve for the good of the seniors. Pictures were taken of the group afterwards.

It was indeed an evening of fun, music, laughter, camaraderie and friendship. We salute the organizers and volunteers for a very successful celebration.
