PHB sparks up Massachusetts July 4th

In keeping with a 25-year tradition, Philippine Heritage Band traveled to the United States to perform in Independence Day parades there.

Four communities in the Boston area were the recipients of PHB’s colourful performances that made the patriotic audience greatly appreciative. The communities of Randolph, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Sudbury and Norwood celebrated July 4th with much fanfare including parades watched by thousands of cheering townspeople that lined the parade route. Cheers of “Happy 4th,” “Thanks for coming,” “Excellent band” and hearty applause fueled the marchers as they cruised the parade routes which averaged two miles in length. PHB played patriotic American marching band favourites, and a pop and folk Filipino marches.

What made PHB stand out from other bands was its composition of banner bearers, colour guards, baton twirlers, bandmajors and instrumentalists with a 14-member drumline, and marshals. No other participating band had the same composition.

As much as PHB was hired to perform at the parades, the opportunity also served to present a visible and positive image of the Filipino people before American audiences.

It was not all work however. The day before the parade, the 115 entourage members visited Massachusetts’ north shore of Rockport which is noted for art shops, then had lunch at a lobster house in nearby Gloucester.

The entourage traveled in two motor coaches and the PHB truck. The itinerary included duty free and factory outlet shopping.

PHB is a medium for training and development. Together in training, travel, performances, sports and social events, members expand their knowledge, build their character, develop peer relationships, grace and self-confidence and refine their attitude resulting in better perception of life, their ethnic origin and that of others.
