Fil-Can theatre premiers ANAK

CBT-logoTORONTO– The next generation of artists from the Carlos Bulosan Theatre premiered their play, ANAK, on March 3, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Church (200 Macintosh St., Scarborough, ON). This is the first full-length play, written and performed by the new CBT Collective. Directed by Leon B. Aureus, ANAK is about a Filipino-Canadian family’s struggle to stay together in the face of unexpected challenges. The play is a story about the family’s hopes and dreams, their secrets and lies, and their efforts to stay together.

Anak poster“As Filipino-Canadian artists and as a community, it is our responsibility to write our stories and portray them with respect and care – if not us, who else would we empower to do this?” says Aureus, CBT’s artistic producer. “The many months of creative exploration and hard work have borne valuable fruit. Our collective efforts and experiences have produced a wealth of stories with purpose and meaning – stories of love, generation gaps, communication barriers, inequality, struggle and triumph.”

ANAK premiered on Friday, March 3 at 8 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church in Scarborough. Special pricing will be offered to the community. Additional performances: March 4 (8 p.m.), March 5 (3 p.m.), March 10 (8 p.m.), March 11 (8 p.m.) and March 12 (3 p.m.) all taking place at St. Paul’s United Church.

Carlos Bulosan Theatre is committed to creating innovative work that reflects a vibrant, new generation of Filipino-Canadian artists. This year, CBT celebrates 35 years as the home of Filipino-Canadian theatre in Toronto.
