Team Canada-SMART Wins 2nd Dreamers 18U Boys International Basketball Challenge in PH
Lucban, Philippines–Team Canada-SMART participated and dominated competition at the recently concluded 2nd Dreamers 18U Boys International Basketball Challenge held from March 24-28 at the Batis Aramin Resort and Hotel in the Philippines.
Team Canada-SMART remained undefeated throughout the tournament beating George Washington High School, PYD Blue and Lucena Karis in the eliminations, PYD Red in the quarters and Lucban Rookies in the semis. In the finals Team Canada-SMART choked the highly touted Father Duenas High School from Guam with its full court press winning the championship 115-92. Andre Cruz top scored the game with 27 markers with Robert Ocampo contributing 15 and Evyn Santiago with 14. Robert Ocampo went home to win the MVP plum and Andre Cruz was a member of the Mythical Five. The other members are Tajaun Smith, Alvin Florido, Ben Kwakumey, Brendon Ocampo, Max Cruz and coaches Mike Cruz and Dome Florido.
PYD Quezon Chapter Chairman Chikoy Capistrano mentions that the participation of Team Canada-SMART has raised the bar of competition for the other participants. Coach Lawrence of George Washington said that definitely they will prepare better for next year’s addition hoping to get back the recently crowned champions.
The tournament was organized by Pinoy Youth Dreamers headed by Beaujing Acot. It is supported by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), headed by chairman Jose Jorge Corpuz and general manager Alexander Balutan and Sonny Barrios and Bernie Atienza of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
Team Canada’s participation was made possible by Smart through Mr. Epok Quimpo and Crossover Sports Canada.
