Fil Canadian Robert Ocampo commits to De La Salle College of St. Benilde
After a successful stint at the SM NBTC and winning the MVP plum at the 2nd Dreamers Basketball 18U International Challenge, Team Canada-SMART mainstay Robert Ocampo received an offer to play for De LaSalle College of St. Benilde. Coach TY Tang met with Rob and his family in the Philippines to make an offer from CSB Blazers after seeing him play. He saw lots of potential on Rob’s game and plans to make him part of Benilde’s future as they rebuild their basketball program. Rob will receive a CSB full athletic scholarship, allowances, board and lodging.
College of St. Benilde is a private Catholic college known to offer degree and non-degree programs in the arts, design, management, service industries, computer applications in business, and special fields of study. The college is the first in the Philippines to offer degrees in animation, consular and diplomatic affairs, digital filmmaking, export management, fashion design and merchandising, multimedia arts, music production, photography and information technology major in game design and development.
Its Men’s basketball program is known as the Blazers and competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Philippines. The Blazers last won the Men’s Basketball NCAA championship in 2000 and was the fastest as an expansion club. Notable players that has done the Blazers jersey includes ex-Ginebra player Sunday Salvacion and Carlo Lastimosa who currently plays for Blackwater Elite in the PBA.
Team Canada-Smart is a basketball program under Crossover Sports Canada. The best Filipino Canadian players with most potential is chosen to be part of the team that represent Canada at the annual NBTC National High School Championship and Dreamers Basketball 18U International Challenge in the Philippines. The team’s participation was made possible through the help and support of NBTC Director – Coach Eric Altamirano, Pinoy Youth Dreamer (PYD) Founder – Beaujing Acot, Mr. Epok Quimpo of Smart Sports, Filipino Basketball League Commissioner – Wally Landicho and Crossover Sport Canada’s Michael Cruz.
Crossover Sports Canada is a player and sporting events management company that assist in seeking opportunities for North American athletes within and outside of Canada. With its local partners in the Philippines it helps provide playing and athletic scholarships for potential athletes here in Canada.
