Taste of Manila on Aug. 19-20 just got bigger
CAMBODIA, PAGCOR, PCSO JOIN IN
Two Philippine government-owned corporations and the Kingdom of Cambodia are the latest to join the growing number of sponsors of the Taste of Manila (ToM) street festival which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, (Aug. 19-20) in Toronto’s Little Manila.
The participation of Cambodia is particularly significant. The kingdom is one of 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that also includes the Philippines.
The sponsorship by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is a follow-through of the commitment by the Duterte administration made to ToM founding chairman Rolly Mangante during his recent visit to Manila.
Cambodia, PAGCOR and PCSO thus joined ToM’s Diamond Sponsors, namely, Trureal Inc. and Telus, as this year’s presenting sponsors.
Last year, ToM attracted as many as 350,000 people. The number, unprecedented in many ways, was a big jump from the previous three years. From its beginning in August 2014, ToM has been a showcase of Philippine culture and Filipino regional cuisines.
During the festival, the City of Toronto will mount a mobile exhibit called the MomenTO Pop-Up Museum to serve as a vivid reminder of the racial and cultural diversity of Toronto, Canada’s largest city and capital of Ontario province.
This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario’s Ontario 150 program in celebration of Canada’s 150th year.
Guests are expected to come from the United States, the Philippines and all across Canada, strengthening ToM’s standing as the largest street festival in North America and outside of the Philippines.
The street festival closes one of Toronto’s main arteries and is staged on 1.5 kilometers stretch from Bathurst and Wilson intersection up to Laurelcrest Ave. on Bathurst.
ToM features a sumptuous food fest, shopping galore for exquisite items, and exciting services offered by the business community. Midway rides, raffle prizes, non-stop entertainment and tons of giveaways from participating exhibitors await the throng of revelers all weekend.
The new PCCC Board of Directors are Danny Doma (Chairman), Lino Eroma (Vice-Chair), Augusto Capitin (Director), Joey Abrenilla (Director) and Rolando Mangante as Founder and Chairman Emeritus.
Taste of Manila 2017 is presented by the Philippine Cultural Community Centre (PCCC) in partnerships with its Diamond sponsors namely: Telus, Trureal Inc., PAGCOR, and PCSO. The festival is also sponsored by Gold-sponsors: A & L Hammer Workforce Management, TD Bank, CIBC, and Scotiabank.
